Mood Board 001

An every-once-in-a-while collection…

…of what's on my mood board (and otherwise on my mind). All captions are left to right.

Setting the tone.

  • Stripey textile by The Lawns. Those colors!

  • “The Secret Garden” (2021) by Danielle McKinney—I came across her work on Pinterest, then made my way to a 2024 T Magazine feature on her work/career. It's a very good read, and in it she describes the women she paints as having “a worldly tension," which is a phrase I simply cannot get enough of.

  • This lil' guy is by James Steinberg.

  • Paloma Elsesser's Architectural Digest tour has stayed with me. It just feels…so grown up? I keep going back to take another peek at the fabric art behind her on the cover (by Eric N. Mack).

The people, we yearn for spring. Until then, we are layering.

  • This (exquisite) Patti Smith shoot accompanied an (equally) exquisite 2022 profile in Bazaar.

  • It took a bit of reverse-image-search digging, but I have come to learn that these two were attendees at Lemaire's F/W 2023 show. Leathered OUT and so elegant. I aspire.

  • Fran Lebowitz, blazer monarch.

  • Sade Adu + cardigan + mock turtleneck.

  • Truly can't get this out of my head: Ayo Edebiri in The Row.

  • Cozy Didion. Relatedly, and re: Notes to John—I think this piece at RUSSH brings up valid points about releasing work posthumously. It also makes sense to me that she assumed found work would be archived and read in some capacity. Ultimately I'm not a Didion girlie (beyond The Year of Magical Thinking, which outright broke me at age 24) and so likely won't read it, but I've been thinking a lot lately about celebrity and fame and visibility (but in like a really intelligent sort of way, ok, please don't judge me) and good god, can you imagine living a life where you have to assume that every scrap of paper you ever touched will eventually end up archived at the New York Public Library? I would be unable to function.

Feeling fresh.

  • There was too much Sade + sweater inspo to apply limits to the equation.

  • These colors are doing it for me at the moment. Artwork by Natalia Bagniewska, available as a print on her site.

  • Awards season is my favorite season, and I am so charmed by the Culkins' daisy boutonnieres that I can't take it.

  • I keep bookmarking free font links from this guy.

  • I came across a link to an Alexej Jawlensky exhibition in Copenhagen. The image they used sent me down a rabbit hole—the faces, the faces! He apparently referred to them as “heads” though, not faces, and this one is just titled “Head,” and when I found that out I pretty much made that exact same face (*head).
